Creating and Sharing Google Forms

Google forms are a great way of collecting data from all of your stakeholders and are really easy to set up! In this guide we’ll go through the basics of creating a form in Google Docs and embedding it into a WordPress post.

The Google Bit

1. Open up Google Docs and create a new FORM document.

2. This should open up the form creation screen where you can begin to enter your form title, description, and the first question.

3. If you highlight the SAMPLE QUESTION 2 area it will turn yellow and a few buttons will appear towards the right of your screen, one of which is EDIT. Clicking this allows you to edit the question just like you did with the first one!

4. When editing questions you aren’t limited to just a basic text box for answers. You can select a number of choices including checkboxes, multiple choices, scales and more.

5. Google Forms gives you only two questions by default but don’t worry, you can add more! To do this simply click ADD ITEM in the top left corner of the page and select the type of item you wish to insert.

6. Once your form is finished don’t forget to click SAVE in the top right corner of the page (keep this page open afterwards)!

The WordPress Bit

1. Now it’s time to embed your form into a WordPress page! First off, click MORE ACTIONS > EMBED in the toolbar next to SAVE.

2. Copy the HTML embed code that Google produces for you.

3. In a new or existing WordPress post simply go into HTML mode and paste the code you just copied (Check out the embedding technique from THIS post if you’re unsure, it’s very similar in WordPress). Once you’ve added anything else you wish, publish your post.

That’s it. You’re done! Check out your lovely new form and admire your Google/WordPress skills.
