Updating post/page URLs in WordPress

January 4, 2012 in Front Page News, How do I...?, WordPress by A Stringfellow

When you create a post on your cloud site, WordPress automatically creates a relevant URL for the post. If you decide to go back and change the post title at a later date WordPress will not automatically update the URL to match the new post! Don’t worry, it’s actually an very simple fix!

I’m going to use this very post as an example. At the time of writing it I titled the post ‘Updating URLs’. As you can see WordPress has automatically given it a matching URL.

Here’s the same post once I’ve edited the post title:

As you can see the ‘Permalink’ hasn’t updated to match the new title but we can soon change that. If you now click EDIT you can manually type in a new URL for your post. Once you’ve done this simply click OK and you’re done!

Now all that’s left to do is update your post!
